Round-backed
armchairs, also known as "horseshoe armchairs", represent one
major 'family' of classic Chinese furniture. The basic seating platform
is surmounted with a curved superstructure forming a continuous support
for the back and arms. Graphic sources show that they were used for dining
and reveal that they were markers of high status ─ seats of honour. |
